The designs of these decorative papers are based on historical designs from renascence Italy and also from traditional Italian woodblock printed papers, as well as pattern paper from 1920s London, where famous Curwen Press revived the tradition of decorative binding papers using repeating pattern. They commissioned young artists such as Paul Nash, Eric Ravilious and Edward Bawden.
